Safety Service Systems, Inc. (S3) was founded in 1996 by Paul and Mary Beth Gerlach with a simple goal: to bring common-sense operations and quality human service to large-scale special events. What began as a hands-on, service-driven operation has grown over the past three decades into a trusted staffing and security partner for some of the region’s most recognizable events.

S3 has supported premier events including Chicago Bears games, Lollapalooza, the Maui Invitational, Harley-Davidson Anniversary Celebrations, President Barack Obama’s Election Nights and Farewell Speeches, Oprah Winfrey Show: 25th Anniversary Event, along with countless concerts, sporting events, and special events throughout Chicago and beyond.

In 2025, Paul Gerlach retired, and Mary Beth Gerlach continues to lead the day-to-day operations of the woman-owned business. As S3 celebrates more than 30 years of service, we remain grateful for the dedicated staff, long-standing clients, and strong partnerships that have shaped our growth and continue to define who we are today.
